I was fortunate enough to have this book downloaded on my phone for reading while traveling. As I read through the second adventure (not chapters – adventures), I realized I needed to read them to my kids. I went back to the first adventure and had a captivated audience with a lot of commentary. My audience consisted of a 9 year old and an almost 8 year old. They loved the interactions between Mike and Dooley as they navigated learning social and spiritual lessons.
I especially loved the little details that took me back to my own childhood. Wanting the latest Air Jordan’s and having a small-town in the middle of a really big world; neighbors regularly helping neighbors and townspeople with authority to speak into the lives of our youth. Parents, pastors, Sunday school teachers, store owners, and alumni all alert to the call of helping the next generation to be the best they can be.
I recommend this book for boys, ages 8 to 12 years old. I read the adventures to two girls, and they hung on every word. I can see this book being read in Sunday school or children’s church and being well-received. And I would love for “Boomsauce” to go viral (you have to read the book).
