Demanding Proof

I may have a tendency to overthink things. Maybe. It can be something small like trying to guess what someone might think depending on what I do or don’t do. I rehearse in my mind the conversations I need to have with my hubby and kiddos if it’s not necessarily going to be an easy conversation – even if I think or know that I’m right. I can play certain things off and seem to merely shrug and not care, but inwardly I’ll be hashing it out and rehashing… and rehashing… and rehashing. It’s worse when it’s something big.

With this blog, there are so many things stirring in my heart that I want to share, but I hesitate – I may be overthinking things. I hesitate because I look at my own life and think, I can’t talk about this because my life doesn’t reflect these truths yet. Most people, including myself, often want proof. You say this, but where’s the proof? Most people have heard that there’s a heaven and a hell, but we can’t find those destinations with any of our GPS devices, can we? Do we have proof of their existence? Have we experienced being at either of those destinations? Has anyone brought back a pearl from the gate? Or brimstone that smells of evil and hatred?

When I write about healing being God’s will for us in this life, there are quite a few who scoff. This might be because they haven’t experienced it for themselves (no proof), they believe it’s dependent on what mood God’s in (He may want you to be sick or broken), or they’ve seen it, but they feel disqualified from receiving it (they must have some unconfessed sin in their life that’s making them unworthy). They want proof, but even when it’s provided, they find a reason to not believe.

What about provision? How many Christians get hung up on the evident prosperity of others? Ooh, their ministry has its own plane, so it must not be of God. What about the pastor who has a fancy sports car – they must not be giving as much as they should. What about the minister who declines a salary from the church and starts producing and giving away some of their digital resources for free – that’s how God intended. And the other pastor who has international ministries and gives his materials (books and audibles) away for free – definitely a man of God.

All 4 of those pastors are teaching the same message: God wants you to prosper in all areas of your life.

Where’s the proof?

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. 3 John 1:2 NKJV

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8 NKJV

Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, “Let the Lord be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.” Psalm 35:27 NKJV

God wants us to prosper in all things (including our health), we’re to have all sufficiency and an abundance for every good work, and it gives God pleasure to do it! Why is it that we stumble around when it comes to provision being something that God wants to do for His kiddos?

Those pastors I mentioned all have a net worth over $4 million (also notice the difference in how most respond to their monetary abundance). I love that God not only has given them the resources to carry out the calling He’s placed on their lives, but that they are able to also experience a life of walking in His blessings. God is not calling us into His family by bribing us with riches or a padded bank account, but the world should want what we have – a relationship with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

While I’m still in process to seeing many of God’s promises manifest in my life, I can’t keep stifling the excitement I have in learning about my inheritance! There is some that I’ll only access after this life is over, but God doesn’t leave us as orphans (John 14:18). He’s ready to open up the floodgates of Heaven (a place that really does exist) with His blessings (Malachi 3:10-12).

Until we get to walk through the pearly gates, let’s pursue seeing His kingdom in the here and now. Let’s seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and watch how He provides everything we need (Matthew 6:33).

This is where I’m going to be parking for a while. I want to know what God’s Word says about money – not what the world says God says about money. I’m going to be focusing on where my identity is established, what and Who I’m trusting in, and how all of these are so necessary for walking in prosperity, abundance, blessings… and how those are all wrapped up in unmerited favor (grace).

I’m sure I’ll get some backlash or negative feedback – money really does bring out the worst in some people. But then again, I might be overthinking things. What are your thoughts on prosperity? Negative or positive, I really do welcome the feedback – as always, be sure to follow our comment policy.
