We all know that one kiddo (I know several) who never seems to slow down, sit down or quiet down. So is the delightful character, Cam, from author Christi Eley. Cam is rambunctious, spirited, and inquisitive. One of the things he just can’t seem to understand is why he’s always told to stop!
“Be still and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10 abridged (NIV)
Christi Eley wonderfully conveys the message of being still through easy-to-understand lessons. I love how each lesson hits home with the noise and chaos of the world around us. From young to not-so-young, people of every age can relate to how Cam feels at times. He wonders how to be still when there’s so much noise around him, how to be patient when you’re wanting to go, how to not be scared and worried when you don’t know what’s going to happen, and finally begins to understand how to be happy and quiet. Cam learns all of these lessons from his pet bunny (and best friend), Mr. Flopsy.
If the message of the fully illustrated book wasn’t enough, Christi also includes additional resources at the back of the book. Ranging from techniques that help children calm themselves and find comfort to scripture verses related to how they’re feeling, these tie directly to what Cam and Mr. Flopsy highlight as they unpack what it means to be still. This is a wonderful, engaging book that will teach while entertaining. This would be a wonderful book to give as a gift for any occasion – I encourage you to order your copy today.
