Ever since I received this delightful book by Kathleen George, my own children have repeatedly asked me to read it to them at bedtime. The illustrations by Louisa Mae go perfectly with this rhythmic tale of imagination.
It’s the classic issue of bedtime with kiddos far from interested in having their adventures halted with the silly notion of sleeping. But Mama Chipmunk reassures Chester with encouragement for having adventures that are much more worthwhile than anything he’s ever considered before.
All of the adventures that Chester is wanting to have amount to finding a sword, building a rocket, and playing kazoo. He soon learns that the greatest adventures are those that he hasn’t even considered. Having a dragon for a tour guide, he can meet a stripe-less tiger in Japan, talented purple elephants in France, and a rainbow-colored polar bear in Mexico – and everything in between!
I highly recommend this book. For any child with a wild imagination, for the creative spirits, and for the parents who want to awaken the dreams in their children – or reawaken in themselves – this is a great addition for your child’s library. “Chester Chipmunk Will NOT Sleep” is a dream within a dream.
