This book is just in time for the holidays and is sure to become a family favorite. I’m very picky regarding the books that I recommend for my readers, so take it seriously when I say that this is a great book to add to your home or church library.
The author, Amber Backus, took great strides to ensure that she was offering a Biblically sound story that can be enjoyed at numerous levels of understanding. Each page contains four to nine lines of storytelling in rhyming format and includes the scripture addresses that back up the message on the page. There’s even prompts at the back of the book for discussion and deepening knowledge.
While my young children, ages 3, 6, and 7, all appreciate this poetic version of the birth of Jesus, my 17-year-old appreciated being able to look up the scriptures referenced for deepening her understanding of Christ’s birth. For those who are in the beginning stages of their walk with Jesus, this is also a wonderful way to delve deeper into the richness of the story of His birth. The digital format of this book does not do the illustrations justice, so do not settle for online reading. While not considered professional quality, the illustrations brought smiles to the faces of my children, and there was attention directed to every age group in regards to the details.
I highly recommend this book for people of all ages, and those who like having the Christmas story easily accessible instead of having to do an internet or concordance search for specific passages. Tying together the Old Testament prophetic readings to the actual events that took place recorded in the New Testament is something not typically done in children’s books, which makes this even higher on my list for books I would recommend. Great as a gift for your own children, grandchildren, or church ministry, I suggest ordering your copy today.
